I'm using Eclipse Ganymede. Everything works fine, but I have an anal-retentive yearning for a warning-free Problems tab. Right now it (correctly) complains about my Ant scripts: "No grammar constraints (DTD or XML schema) detected for the document." Is there any way to turn that off for just those files? Ideally I'd like it to still warn me if my other schema-constrained files were missing the schema declarations.

I hate that warning too. Specially because it appears in XML files that you haven't written but appear in your project for whatever reason (if you use MAVEN it's hell).
With Eclipse 3.5+ you can easily remove this validation rule. Go to Preferences-->XML-->XML FILES --> Validation and Select "ignore".
You may also have to do a Project -> Clean for the validation warnings to go away.
The R file will not be generated unless there are not error in the /res/ folder.
If there are not errors in the /res/ folder, try removing the gen folder and then right click on the project -> android -> fix android settings.

The simplest is to supply a minimal DTD to shut it up.
