R – Flex: Group items in DataGrid

I have a DataGrid with info like this:

Associate   Amount  Time    Customer

John Doe    2   9am Sam Smith
John Doe    2   10am    Berry Cooper
Bill Ace    1   9am Sandy James

Repeating the name and amount gets redundant so I would like it to look something like this:

Associate   Amount  

John Doe    2       
Bill Ace    1

Then when you select one, it expands to show the times and customers for the selected associate. I hope this makes sense…I am currently just using a DataGrid but I can use an AdvancedDataGrid if thats needed…I am pretty sure something like this can be done, I just don't know how.

My data is in xml and looks like this:

<stat associate="John Doe" date="08/12/09" amount="2" time="9 am" customer="Sam Smith"/>
<stat associate="John Doe" date="08/12/09" amount="2" time="10 am" customer="Berry Cooper"/>
<stat associate="Bill Ace" date="08/12/09" amount="1" time="9 am" customer="Sandy James"/>

You'll want to use an AdvancedDataGrid with a GroupingCollection. See here

Something like this in the code-behind will work. You'll need to change the cell indexes, DataTable name, etc, but this is essentially how you add a sum in the footer.

GridView1.FooterRow.Cells[4].Text = string.Format("{0:C}", myDataTable.Compute( "sum(Net_Price)", ""));

You also have to set the DataGrid's "ShowFooter" property to "True".

WPF datagrid header text binding

This is the easy way to bind the DataGridTextColumn header to the data context:

<DataGrid x:Name="summaryGrid" Grid.Row="3" AutoGenerateColumns="False" IsReadOnly="True" CanUserAddRows="False">
       <DataGrid.Columns>
            <DataGridTextColumn Header="Hard Coded Title" Width="*"/>
            <DataGridTextColumn Width="100">
                <DataGridTextColumn.Header>
                    <TextBlock Text="{Binding DataContext.SecondColumnTitle, 
                                              RelativeSource={RelativeSource AncestorType={x:Type local:MainWindow}}}"/>
                </DataGridTextColumn.Header>
            </DataGridTextColumn>
            <DataGridTextColumn Width="150">
                <DataGridTextColumn.Header>
                    <TextBlock Text="{Binding DataContext.ThirdColumnTitle, 
                                              RelativeSource={RelativeSource AncestorType={x:Type local:MainWindow}}}"/>
                </DataGridTextColumn.Header>
            </DataGridTextColumn>
        </DataGrid.Columns>

You will obviously need to have properties: SecondColumnTitle and ThirdColumnTitle implemented on your data context class.

I have this solution working in .net 4.5 and did not have a chance nor reason to try it in earlier versions of the framework.
