R – Integrate WPF and Windows Forms

I am learning WPF and was wondering if there is a way to show a WPF Window from an existing C# WinForm without 'hosting' WinForm in WPF?
I tried using myWPFWindow.show() on button click event for displaying the Window. The window is getting displayed but the textboxes displayed in the window are preventing me from typing. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to get this working?

Yes, that is a strange problem I also ran into one year ago. I don't exactly remember the solution, but this forum thread should point you into the right direction.

I think the simplest solution is to make your WinForms thread execute in an STA. There is nothing wrong with having an STA thread winforms app (it is in fact often the default).

You can fix this by adding the following line to the main method of your program:

[STAThreadAttribute]
static void Main(string[] args)

The default Wpf applicationshutdown behavior (specified on the "Application" tab in project properties in VS or using the ShutdownMode attribute in Application.Xaml) is "On Last Window Close". This means that when you close the Wpf window you create, Wpf shuts down the application framework so any subsequent window creations will throw an exception.

You can avoid this problem by setting the Shutdown mode to "On explicit shutdown" ("OnExplicitShutdown" in Xaml). You will then need to manually call Application.Current.Shutdown explicitly when you want the app to terminate (e.g. when the winforms form is closed).
