Excel – “Object Library invalid or contains references…” in Excel VBA with DatePicker

I have been working on a Excel workbook with lots of VBA code for a while and now I have send this file to some colleagues for testing and it does NOT work in their computer.
We all work in the same company and have Windows XP SP2 with Office 2003.

The workbook has a form that opens when clicking over a shape and it contains some controls.
When they click over the shape for the form to show the following error appears:

"Object Library invalid or contains
references to object defintions that
could not be found"

In the form there is a DatePicker and I think there lies the problem. If I delete the datePicker from the form and send them the file again they do not get this error message.

I already tried deleting the mscomct2.exd file as mentioned in this two sites "Microsoft" and "lessanvaezi" but the error stil pops. I checked and the new .exd file was generated.

Some Additional info:

I check their system and they do have the file mscomct2.ocx in the correct location(c:\Winxp\System32).
If I open a empty Excel file, go to the VBA editor go to Tools->Reference, I do NOT see the option to register the "Microsoft Common Control-2 6.0 (SP6)" (mscomct2.ocx). Instead I see a "Microsoft Windows Common Controls Satellite-3 6.2)" (cmct3de.dll).
I send my collegue the file with the datePicker, but without the reference to the "Microsoft Common Control-2 6.0 (SP6)". Before clicking the shape and opening the form I tried to reference the MSCOMCT2.ocx library dinamically with the following code. It referenced the "Microsoft Common Control-2 6.0 (SP6)" but the error still pops.

Two times. Unfortunatelly regarless
of wich one I cchose, the behaviour
is the same: The datepicker symbol
is added in the toolbox, but when I
drag the control to the form, a
msgBox pops saying that the control
was not available.

Has anybody an idea what is wrong? What can I do to make it run in their computer?

The computer with this problem has been Upgraded so I wont be able to find the specific solution for my case. I'm choosing Archers solution as it has helped the most people (Most Upvotes).

I have the same problem too. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957924/en-us delete all .exd files make my program work!

Go into a command prompt and type the following DOS commands:

Code:

CD \Documents and Settings

DEL /S /A:H /A:-H *.EXD

How it works

I will try my best to explain how it works - please excuse my English.

The VBE will call a system function to create the password dialog box.
If user enters the right password and click OK, this function returns 1. If user enters the wrong password or click Cancel, this function returns 0.
After the dialog box is closed, the VBE checks the returned value of the system function
if this value is 1, the VBE will "think" that the password is right, hence the locked VBA project will be opened.
The code below swaps the memory of the original function used to display the password dialog with a user defined function that will always return 1 when being called.

Use Dim'd variables

Dim rng as Range

Set the variable to the required range. There are many ways to refer to a single-cell range:

Set rng = Range("A1")
Set rng = Cells(1, 1)
Set rng = Range("NamedRange")

Or a multi-cell range:

Set rng = Range("A1:B10")
Set rng = Range("A1", "B10")
Set rng = Range(Cells(1, 1), Cells(10, 2))
Set rng = Range("AnotherNamedRange")
Set rng = Range("A1").Resize(10, 2)

You can use the shortcut to the Evaluate method, but this is less efficient and should generally be avoided in production code.

Set rng = [A1]
Set rng = [A1:B10]

All the above examples refer to cells on the active sheet. Unless you specifically want to work only with the active sheet, it is better to Dim a Worksheet variable too:

A common (bad) piece of code is to open a book, get some data then close again

Pass ranges to your Subs and Functions as Range variables:

    ClearRange rng
End Sub

You should also apply Methods (such as Find and Copy) to variables:

Dim rng1 As Range
Dim rng2 As Range
Set rng1 = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("SomeSheet").Range("A1:A10")
Set rng2 = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("SomeSheet").Range("B1:B10")
rng1.Copy rng2

If you are looping over a range of cells it is often better (faster) to copy the range values to a variant array first and loop over that:

Dim i As Long

Set rng = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("SomeSheet").Range("A1:A10000")
dat = rng.Value  ' dat is now array (1 to 10000, 1 to 1)
for i = LBound(dat, 1) to UBound(dat, 1)
    dat(i,1) = dat(i, 1) * 10 ' Or whatever operation you need to perform
next
rng.Value = dat ' put new values back on sheet
