Pass Credentials in SharePoint Page Viewer

I am wanting to view web pages on a SharePoint site. A Page Viewer is the obvious way to do this. However, the web pages require authentication. Is it possible to pass the credentials of the current authenticated user?

It depends on the Type of authentication you have, where the application is hosted (same site or different application).

If you want to retrieve the currently authenticated user from the SharePoint context, you need to remain within the SharePoint context. This means hosting your custom web application within SharePoint (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc297200.aspx). Then from your custom application reference Microsoft.SharePoint and use the SPContext object to retrieve the user name. For example:

SPContext.Current.Web.CurrentUser.LoginName

You can still use the Page Viewer Web Part to reference the URL of the site, now located within the SharePoint context.

How to log out user from web site using BASIC authentication

Have the user click on a link to https://log:out@example.com/. That will overwrite existing credentials with invalid ones; logging them out.
