Ruby-on-rails – How to add Devise’s ‘timeoutable’ module to an existing Devise install? – Rails 3.1

But I can't seem to locate the necessary columns for timeoutable.

I looked for the fields that timeoutable requires in the Devise library: https://github.com/plataformatec/devise/blob/master/lib/devise/schema.rb – but there is no such method in that schema file.

The model just has a custom method with no reference to the columns: http://rdoc.info/github/plataformatec/devise/master/Devise/Models/Timeoutable

How do I add that functionality?

timeoutable refers to the login session timeout. No extra columns are needed, just add it to your model.

The timeoutable hook contains all the magic (source: https://github.com/plataformatec/devise/blob/master/lib/devise/hooks/timeoutable.rb)

I think the route for signing out is a DELETE method. This means that your sign out link needs to look like this:

<%= link_to "Sign out", destroy_user_session_path, :method => :delete %>

Yours doesn't include the :method => :delete part. Also, please note that for this to work you must also include <%= javascript_include_tag :defaults %> in your layout file (application.html.erb).

Ruby-on-rails – Redirect Devise before_filter :authenticate_user to sign in path

I had a similar issue where I needed to redirect to the signup if the user was not logged in. I fixed it by adding a method to the application_controller.rb and using it as a before filter in the other controllers.

Keep in mind that is is more of a temporary solution because it skips a bunch of devise´s abstractions.


before_filter :auth_user

  def auth_user
    redirect_to new_user_registration_url unless user_signed_in?
  end
