I have Sql Server 2005 Express installed on my computer, and I want to install Sql Server 2008 Express as well. What should I consider before doing this additional installation?

For queries like this it is always best to use an INFORMATION_SCHEMA view. These views are (mostly) standard across many different databases and rarely change from version to version.
To check if a table exists use:

Please check the ServerName which you provided. It should match with the below shown Name in the UserName textbox, and that name should followed with \SQLEXPRESS:

They should be fine together, just make sure they are using different ports (the default is 1433) if they are communicating over TCP/IP. Why do you need both versions?
