Cognito-forms – I want a field to copy (duplicate) the data from another field

You have a couple of options for this:

1. For many types fields you can set a default value for the fields. This could just be a constant value, but you can also enter a calculation that defaults the field on the fly based on changes to other fields. However, you cannot default address fields, so you would have to break this down into individual text fields to make this work. In the example below, the field named SecondField is defaulted to the value of FirstField.

   

2. Another option is to have a set of calculated fields that represents the parent's primary address. These fields could be calculated from a combination of the students's primary address, the Yes/No field selection, and anything entered for the parent's primary address. These calculated values will be included in the export. You could make the parent address conditionally show based on the Yes/No selection and make these calculated fields always be hidden so they only appear in the export.

   

So generally the answer to your question is yes, but names and addresses are a bit more complicated by their nature. Please mark this as the answer if it addresses your needs or add comments if you need clarification or if it will not be enough to fulfill your requirements.

You can easily change the values of other fields on your Cognito Forms using calculations. Here are two common ways to do this:

1. Add a Calculation field

   Add a Calculation field next to your Trip Code dropdown called Name of Trip. Specify a calculation for this field that calculates the name of the trip based on the code selected in the Trip Code field. For example, =TripCode = "SkiGetaway" ? "Colorado Ski Retreat" : TripCode = "Cruise15" ? "Alaskan Cruise" : "No Trip Selected"

2. Calculate a Default Value

   As an alternative, you can also update the values of other fields on your form when changes occur by using a calculation to update the current value of a field. Many of the field types support a Default Value, which can actually be a calculation that references other fields on your form. If you added a Textbox field instead, called Name of Trip, and used the above calculation as the Default Value, the text in this field would automatically change when the trip code changes. This is useful when you still want the user to be able to change the calculated value, such as an auto-calculated end date for a reservation.
