Confluence WebDAV – Naming Rules for Folders Created Through WebDAV

When I try to create folders in Confluence using WebDAV, I frequently run into issues.

For example, these directory names don't seem to be allowed:

css
images

Code example:

chris@localhost /cygdrive/w/Personal/~chris/Home
$ mkdir css
mkdir: cannot create directory `css': Permission denied

chris@localhost /cygdrive/w/Personal/~chris/Home
$ mkdir cssfolder  # This works ok!

Also, it seems that Confluence does not like a child folder if it has the same name as a grandparent's folder name.

Is there is list of the rules that define what is and isn't allowed?

I don’t have a reference page for reserved names, but one thing to know is that you can’t create 2 pages with the same name in a Confluence space, which may translate (for WebDAV) as: below ~chris you cannot, even very deep, create 2 folders with the same name.

The way I do this is pretty simple, I added a bookmark/shortcut that executes the click on the monospace button like so:

If you use Google Chrome, simply right click bookmark bar, choose "Add Page" and add the javascript snippet in the "URL" field, with any "Name".

You can also add a keyboard shortcut to the function, using tinyMce's interface directly. Again adding a snippet in a bookmark bar is easiest:

javascript:tinyMCE.activeEditor.addShortcut("ctrl+alt+m","monospace","confMonospace");

Clicking the shortcut enables a toggle toggles the shortcut for the current page. Using it by hitting ctrl+alt+m will mark the selected text as monospaced.

For bonus points, get greasemonkey or tampermonkey and paste in your user script, and update the matching urls to always execute on your confluence domain. Here is an example for the official atlassian confluence site:

you can do that with layer. You may know the layer functionality in MS Visio, also draw.io provide that feature to implement a ton of information in one diagram and differ them between multiple view levels. The user has the possibility to check and uncheck layers for different information views.
