Currently, whenever I like or comment on Facebook, in my friends’ news feed it shows as “Pradeep Simha likes John's photo,” “Pradeep Simha commented on Jay's status” etc. How do I prevent this from happening?
Are there any privacy settings for this actions?

On the Facebook wall,on the right hand of your recent activity you’ll find a button from where you get two options, to remove the post (nothing new) and “hide all friending activity” A popup window needs your confirmation. Also there you have a link to your profile story settings manager. You can access at any time this settings.
Same thing and with the “like” notifier. You can now hide all “like” activity. Actually, you have now a more flexibility in set the privacy options for almost all things what are posted on your Facebook wall. Test this settings yourself!
The profile story settings manager unfortunately is not easy to be find. You can spend time to take a look in any profile or account setting but you never find it. The link for this settings is placed at very bottom of your Facebook wall. Scroll down your wall, wait to load stories, scroll again and there you will find the link pointed in the previous screenshot.
Are you referring to your News Feed (Top News), News Feed (Most Recent), or the Recent Activity on your profile?
I think that News Feed (Top News) only displays what Facebook considers to be most interesting to you, so I wouldn't expect your own likes/comments there. The News Feed setting that you mentioned applies to the Most Recent setting.
News Feed (Most Recent) does not display individual stories for comments and likes on posts; you would only see them under the corresponding post, if it is expanded. Are you saying that you expanded the likes/comments and you can see comments from other people but your comment is not there? Sometimes it takes some time for it to show up although it shouldn't take days (unless it was deleted).
If you are referring to the Recent Activity on your profile, there is an additional setting for that that you didn't mention. On your profile's Wall (not your News Feed), scroll to the bottom and click Edit Options. If you have hidden any kinds of stories from your Recent Activity these will be listed and you can unhide any of them by clicking the X and then Save.
As for the Photos tab, that used to be a known issue although the link to Facebook Help in that answer does not seem to work now. I don't know if that means that it should be fixed.

When you post status there is a select button on the right bottom side which brings up a menu specifying your audience: public, friends, select person/s etc., something like that, I try and limit posts sometimes but I don't know if it works. I once posted a comment that I though was private on an article published on another site, it was very embarrassing.... just as I posted I notice a small checkbox under the comment field saying, share on facebook, and then noticed that I was actually logged into that site with my Facebook ID. I wanted to die. I managed to delete the comment on my wall but it had gone onto the FB newsfeed, publicly! There seems to be no way to delete newsfeed to limit damage in such circumstances, but I think it is possible to select your audience before you make a status update, tho not like and comments. You can only filter your own news feed.
