How to Use Boolean AND and NOT Operators in Gmail Search

I'm trying to find mails that have one address in the recipients but another not in it.

I'm trying things like from:address1@gmail.com and not from:address2@gmail.com and from:(address1@gmail.com and not address2@gmail.com)

None of them work, and I can't find a good help page about boolean operators either.

Anyone has any idea?

The 'or' function in Gmail is represented by 'OR,' and the 'not' function is represented by a minus (-). You also can use quotes (" ") to specify an exact phrase.

If you're using a filter you can set the filter to be the following:

to(*@gmail.com) as opposed to to(one@gmail.com)

That will catch any email that gets in your inbox, where one@ will only catch those to one@.

If you're using the settings > Fowarding and pop/imap it should forward anything in your inbox to that number.

Perhaps Gmail doesn't let you search the email headers from their web interface, but you should be able to access all email messages via POP/IMAP, and then you can use standard search tools (e.g. grep) to search for anything you want.

However, see the comment above from Ramhound and myself—the email headers might lead you back to Gmail itself, which won't reveal much about the originator of the email. Also, all headers are easy to forge anyway. If the user is clever enough, they can generate whichever headers / source IPs they want.

If in your case the user you're trying to spy on / trace isn't malicious, then you might be able to get at least some information other than the message content from email headers.
