Google-calendar – How often does Google Calendar update its “Other Calendar” feeds

I subscribe to a couple of external calendar feeds from my Google Calendar (within a Google Apps account) and am curious to know how often they get updated.

For example, I have a subscription to my TripIt.com calendar. If I make a change in TripIt it can be a few days before that change shows up in my Google Calendar.

How often does Google Calendar update these feeds?

Google says every few hours, which in my experience means 6-24.

Currently, calendar feeds are automatically updated by Google Calendar every few hours. We understand that some users want to have the ability to refresh the calendars they added manually and we are exploring various ways to enable this.

If the calendar you're subscribing to using Google Calendar isn't refreshed after 24 hours, please send us the calendar address and the detail of the problem so that we can investigate.

There's an article on this here. I've not checked that it works, but it seems pretty straight forward. The essence is that instead of importing the calendar, you add the URL of your event feed as a public calendar - here's a summary of the steps:

In Facebook click on "Events"
Click on "Export Events" and copy the URL
In Google Calendar go to "Add" under "Other calendars" and choose "Add by URL"
Paste the URL you copied from Facebook and click "Add"

Gmail – Email Formatting Guidelines for Google Calendar

I have had limited success with the following format:

Subject: My test event

Email body says:

This is my test event!

When: May 7, 9-10AM
Where: 123 Main Street, Berkeley, CA

Using the keyword "Location" instead of "Where" seems to work also.

In Google Calendar, this will populate the Subject, the body and the event time and the event location (The field labeled "Where").

I have been using the above format with my personal Gmail account, and my institution's Google Apps account. It usually works with the "Add to Calendar" button, and with the "More: Create event" menu option.
