Google-docs – Automatically highlight certain words in Google Docs

This is rather dated (28 July 2011) but I fear is still applicable:

I would like to be able to control click in order select multiple bits of text>> You and thousands of others. I'm afraid it isn't supported but I'd like to see it in the future.

Selecting multiple cells in a spreadsheet is possible.

the pattern matching for identifying a link is very basic but this should get you started. It will add a menu to your doc that will look at all highlighted text and make links where it should. (past into script editor, save the script. reload the doc)
