I have a Google Docs document that I want to share, but I don't want to retain the revision history when I do so. What's the easiest way to go about this?

Google recently updated the document revisions and they are displaying the exact date for each of them. For older documents it doesn't seem to be working, but at least all your new documents will be the way you wanted it.
If the See revision history is greyed out or you can't select it, the document you are viewing does not allow you to edit and hence, you can't see the revision history.
This is usually the case when the owner of the document has set you to either:
- Can comment
- Can view
To be able to see the revision history your permissions on the document must be either of the two:
- Is owner
- Can edit

This is a very good question. Often people in an org can sniff around doc history to see what the author was thinking on earlier revs.
A way around this (not elegant) is to make a copy of the doc using File --> Make a copy...
This copy will have the most current content and will start history fresh. Then you can delete the original one, rename the new one, etc.
