I have been working with some numbers in Google Spreadsheets and when I type the formula =MINUS(A1,A2) or even =A1-A2 the spreadsheet keeps adding the two numbers instead of subtracting them. What am I doing wrong? Or how can I fix this?

This is simply due to the number being negative, remember formatting is funny in google sheets and the student could format a positive number to look like a negative number or vice versa. A simple test is to do
=A1>0or=A1<0
