Right now, I am trying a service called diigo that allows me to highlight and comment any web page I come across. I also use an IFTTT recipe to send the highlighted URL's page to an Evernote notebook.
But what I would really like to do is to send the highlighted text and comment and not the URL to Evernote, so that I could search for everything in one place.
How can I do this seamlessly?
The method that I've found that works best for me (although it is a bit of a kludge) is to email my Evernote account the code as a .txt file, or alternately wrapped by the <code></code> HTML tags in the body of the email. I've got just over 3000 notes incorporating this sort of format. Most of what I've used this for is HTML, Javascript and Ruby on Rails files.
It seems that the email-to-note gateway treats the content just a little differently than just cutting and pasting it in my experience. The one caveat I would offer is that this method probably will not work if you are using XML structures, due to the native file structure of native notes. Good luck!

I use Chrome. I don't want the thumbnail or the sentences. I just want something like "amazon.com/link - this is what I wrote to remind myself why I saved it" Just a one line, no extra stuff. – Joshua Dance
Then my recommendation would be to select the text, right-click, then clip bookmark.

I'm not sure what web browser you are using, but evernote web clipper for chrome has an option where you can save the page as a bookmark.
Evernote will clip a small thumbnail of a page and a 1-3 sentence explaining what it is about.
From there, everything will be normal.

I was facing the same issue, but I have found a solution. I used IFTTT to create a recipe with Todoist and Evernote. Upon installing the Todoist Chrome Extension, I can highlight things, pull up a secondary menu (right-click for most people), and click "Add to Todoist". IFTTT then sends that new item to the end of a note in Evernote, for me to sit down and organize when I have time later.
While not the preferred method, it is the method that works best.
