Is there a way to "pin" or leave a thread at the top of the list? Almost like you see on community forums where important or common threads always stay at the top?

I looked into this as well. From what I could find you can not pin a specific comment to always be at the top of the comment thread. You can however set the order of the comments to be more "Recent" or "Best". Using the "Best" sort option might give you somethings close to what you are looking for though.

I used the fact that the {PostID} variable is empty for static pages.

So declare a CSS class like this:

.hiddenOnStaticPages {
    display: none;
}

Then wrap the comments link (and the actual comments) in a div like this:

<div class="hiddenOnStaticPages{PostID}">
Comment HTML goes here...
</div>

Comments – How to Lock a Thread in Disqus or Close Site for Comments

Go to your Disqus Admin panel
Find the comment from the thread you want to close.
Click anywhere on the comment to expand it.
Hover the mouse over the Find... button and list menu will appear where the last option is All comments from this thread, click it.
In the new page, there will be the Close button in the right sidebar.
