It seems that most search engines don't give dead links as results, which I think is a shame. The page might not work now, but it is quite likely that the Internet Archive saved it. So the information I need probably exists, I just need to know the link in order to find it… But the search engines won't give that link since it's dead. Is there some way around this?

Block the offending sites from Google search
If you have a Google account you can sign up for one either by creating a Gmail account at mail.google.com or by creating a Google account using an existing email at accounts.google.com.
Once you have an account, go to your dashboard.
There's a section called blocked sites. Enter the site's domain name (including http://) to block all results from that specific site.
It blocks on the domain level, so you may need to put in multiple entries for a site.
Ex:
http://blogs.technet.com
http://technet.microsoft.com
http://mobile.experts-exchange.com
http://experts-exchange.com
That should help you eliminate the worst offenders. Enjoy...
Note: I don't have the link to reference but I'm pretty sure that Google allows a max of 500 sites that you can block from the search results.
Attack this from the outside.
Use Google's filtering capabilities.
For example, let's say I wanted to search for videos by user "MyAbridged" posted in August, 2012.
I search for myabridged site:youtube.com to get videos by that user.
Then click Search Tools and you will see Any Time come up as an option.
Finally, click Any Time, choose Custom Range, and select the time frame you want to restrict your search to.
Complete your search and you now have all the videos posted by that user in that time frame.
Example search: myabridged site:youtube.com between Aug 1, 2012 and Aug 31, 2012
Note that this search technically searches for any pages within Youtube that mention the name "MyAbridged" anywhere in the page, so it will actually return back more than just their videos, but it will get you where you need to go

A dead link, see link rot, "by definition" is a "known" link that points somewhere but instead of a web page, a missing web page or website not found errors are returned.
If you don't know the link the only way to find it is to find something that holds the link you are looking for, so try think about which kind of sites could have links to that page, and search for them.
