I’m working as a project manager and we are using Trello. As a team, we tend to write comments on a card in the comments field as notes / reminders to one another.
I only get notified of these if I explicitly subscribe to the card. Is there a way I can globally opt-in to notifications / subscriptions for all the cards in a board?
They will be unassigned from cards, and that's about it. Their actions will be preserved, as will the fact that they performed the actions.
Unfortunately, this is a little bit hidden in the current UI. Here's how you enable desktop notifications:
This setting is per-browser (so you'll need to re-enable it if you use a different computer), and only works in Chrome.
If you don't see that link, check the Notifications section of chrome://settings/content to see what your notifications settings are (they may be set to "Do not allow"), and chrome://settings/contentExceptions#notifications to see which sites you're currently allowing/preventing notifications on.

You could subscribe to the whole board, lists or cards and get notifications of what is happening there. This page will give you more information: http://help.trello.com/customer/portal/articles/930771-subscribing-to-cards-lists-and-boards
Note: if you have a highly active board it will become in a nightmare... :D
