Is it possible to use Twitter's advanced search function (or something else) to find people that tweet about a certain topic regularly, or that match a certain criteria?
For example, I'm looking for people who play soccer-baseball (also known as kickball) in my area and have a lot of followers (lets say over 5000).
The only thing I can think of is to perform an advanced twitter search, and then "study" the search results for profiles that meet my criteria.
Is there a better way?
I tried
and it returns tweets without any links in them. Tweets containing images show pic.twitter.com links though.
You can also try to exclude tweets containing "http" in your timeline.
http://www.tweepi.com/ let's you see all of the followers of a particular account and, you can choose to see their bios in the table as well - it's not much better than the Tweet Report, except that you can filter on text in the bio - the screenshot shows me filtering on the keyword 'phd'
(I just discovered this while looking around to answer your question - is really useful actually when trying to remember the handle of a particular follower you want to contact... )

You can try the "who to follow" feature in Twitter, which enables you to search by name or topic. http://twitter.com/#!/who_to_follow/search/kickball
