Why doesn’t Google Translate by Speech function on Chrome
google-translate
I videoed this hitch on Youtube. As you can see, I disabled extensions and plugin.
But Google Translate by speech doesn't look to be working? Step 3 never happens:
When told to "Speak now," say what you want to translate.

I've had the same issue! Microphone didn't work on google translate site and on the main google page clicking on mic have been produced No Internet connection output. How I solved it: I downloaded the google-chrome-stable version from the official source download google chrome and installed it. Now the microphone on google translate and other services is working as expected. Side note: I have latest Chromium browser as well on my Linux and mic does not work here.
Yes, it is possible get rid of the Google Translate chrome completely so that all you see is the translated page fullscreen and nothing else.
Install Google Chrome (or chromium-browser if you prefer). Open Google Chrome and click on the Settings icon that is in the top right-hand corner. A popup menu will appear. From this menu select Settings. The Settings window will open. In the search box in the Settings window type "translate" without the quotation marks. The Settings window will change to show the search results for "translate". In the search results for "translate" you will see a checkbox that says: "Offer to translate pages that aren't in a language I read". Click this checkbox in order to put a check mark in it.
Now browse to a webpage that you want to be translated. A toolbar will appear asking you if you want the webpage to be translated. After you are finished using the translate toolbar, you can close it by clicking on the X in the right-hand side of the toolbar.
When you're browsing the web, you might come across a page where some
of the text is in a different language. With the new update to the
Google Translate Chrome extension, you can translate just that piece
of text, without worrying about the rest of the page.
