Right now my YouTube homepage shows the activity from my friends on Google+ (and I don't have many friends there, so the last activity on my homepage was six months ago).
I have the official YouTube app for iPhone, and the homepage shows the most popular videos for the day, and it is amazing.
How can I instead show these popular videos on my homepage rather than the social feed, and rather than having to subscribe to a bunch of channels?
The short answer (the feed for Freeman's Mind) is:

The longer answer (to find this on your own): you need to go onto the creator's account page and click on the playlist for the show you want. The playlist ID (in this case, 49C3B7EDD1624C55) is found above the list of episodes, at the end of the URL box for the show.
You can then either plug that playlist ID into the end of the URL I gave you above, or if you want to do it on your own, go to YouTube's page for finding feeds, select "Get" in the Playlist section, and the input the ID you've found in the box. It then outputs the URI for the feed below.

As for 2017 it can be solved with OPML file export/import. For more details visit the official YouTube support answer.

YouTube shows you your Subscriptions page as default. You could just click the Browse link, and you will be taken to a list of the most popular videos, regardless of your friends'.
There does not seem to be a way to set this as the default YouTube start page, but you could always just create a bookmark for the Browse page.
