I'm experimenting with UHF RFID. I have a setup that's working but my read range is only 1 – 2 feet. This is the equipment I'm using, it's all quite cheap, I don't mind spending more to increase the read range but I'm not sure which components would be most important to upgrade.
Tag: Key Tag UHF RFID tag , EPC Gen2 (900MHz) (the little yellow ones on the cutedigi website)
I could upgrade to an antenna with 9dB gain, or even to a linear polarized 10dB antenna, I can't control the angle of the tags though so I'm thinking circular polarization may give me better performance. I don't know if an extra dB will make much difference though.
Alternatively, maybe I'm better to pursue higher-sensitivity, larger tags or a higher output reader.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions on this. Thanks.
