I download a big file of .Net 3.5 SP1 from http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe
Now when I try to install it on Windows Server 2012, I get the following screenshot:
What the?? When will the microsoft learn?
Now this is a loop. When I try to install from Server Manager, I get installation cannot be done. It needs installation disk.
Does that mean I can't install at all without the installation disk in presence?
I just tried the installer on Windows 7 RC to see what happend, and got the following message (which happens to have the solution to your problem :)
"You must use 'Turn Windows features on or off' in the Control Panel to install or configure Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1."
Sure enough, there it is. Enable it by clicking Start --> Control Panel --> Programs --> Turn Windows features on or off. It is a checkbox right in the middle.
What architecture is it? I have the .NET 3.5 SP1 redistributables, and their details are:
3.5.30729.13.5.30729.13.5.30729.1Hmm I see a pattern emerging here. Looks like you have the SP-1 install.
(P.S. You can this info verbosely by looking at the "Product Name" value in the Version tab of the Properties box)
Update: Turns out this information is not really correct. Look at the following screenshot:

Left = SP1 install, Right = Non-SP install. They are the same version number. I'm going to say that your version is the non-SP though, because SP1 is missing from the description according to your post.
