Gmail – Make ‘is:unread’ the Default View

In Gmail can we make is:unread the default view?

That is, when we load Gmail, can we configure it so that is:unread is already selected, thereby showing only unread messages by default?

Or can we at least configure Gmail so that it has a 1-click link that only shows unread mail?

The reason for this of course is that it is slow and inefficient to have to type is:unread into the Gmail search every time I open it. It would be much more convenient for Gmail to load this view by itself when I open Gmail.

Have you considered just setting your Priority Inbox settings so that Unread is always displayed first?

I don't use POP. I use forwarding (from Google apps to gmail) and think that I nail all 3 of your issues:

To:@domain.com filter tags them all [EDIT] - May not work for gmail->gmail
Never had any issues of the account expiring. Been doing this for at least 36months.
This happens for me, and I also use the send via SMTP feature so that the from address is not spoofed. 100% legitimate.

Gmail – Why doesn’t the Gmail “mute” button show up for me

You can make the mute button come back when filtering by including the is:unread filter and adding -is:muted. I have the following query displayed beneath my inbox using the Multiple Inboxes lab, and it allows me to mute conversations:

label:Support is:unread -is:muted

This shows me anything labelled Support that I haven't read, and that isn't muted yet. The mute button can be found under the More Actions button as usual.
